The mass air flow (MAF) sensor, part of your vehicle’s electronic fuel injection system, is responsible for calculating the total amount of air entering the engine. A faulty MAF sensor can cause your vehicle to run too rich or run too lean. You’ll notice if the tailpipes eject black smoke or when the engine runs rough or backfires.

Mass Air flow Sensor (MAF): how it works, symptoms ...

+

Jul 09, 2021· The Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF) is one of the key components of an electronic fuel injection system in your car. It is installed between the air filter and the intake manifold of the engine. See the diagram. The mass air flow sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine or the air flow. In modern cars, an intake air temperature or IAT ...

What Can Cause a Misfire in a Ford Engine? | It Still Runs

+

A mass airflow sensor can cause a miss by transmitting a false signal to the computer, causing the computer to create a lean or rich mixture. An oxygen sensor can do the same thing. The computer itself can cause a misfire, although not as common, through a malfunction or a bad main ground to the computer.
