Is a temperature sensor the same as a thermostat?

+

18/3/2020· Is a temperature sensor the same as a thermostat? The Thermostat (instream valve, opens at around 170degs) and Coolant Temp Sensor (sends coolant temp data to the ECU) are different, and the Coolant Temp Sending Unit is something else (by the bleed valve, sends signal to Temp Gauge on the dash, exclusively). Re: Relationship between coolant temperature sensor and thermostat. Hi, Thermostat Its job is to block the flow of coolant to the radiator until the engine has warmed up. When the engine is cold, no coolant flows through the engine. Once the engine reaches its operating temperature (generally about 200 degrees F, 95 degrees C), the thermostat ...

Coolant Oil Temperature Sensor Continental Aftermarket

+

Coolant Oil Temperature Sensor. Temperature sensors are used in vehicles to record the temperature of oil, water or fuel and to forward the measurement result to ECU. The engine power train management system uses a number of temperature inputs to improve the performance of the engine, control emissions, fuel control and optimize efficiency.

27/4/2016· Since about midwinter I''ve been having trouble getting the car up to normal temp. It typically hovers around the line one below 190. I''ve seen some people say the coolant temp sensor is more likely to go. However, based on what I''m seeing, I''m guessing it''s the thermostat. * Now that it''s getting warmer in the afternoons the engine gets up to 190.

28/3/2009· Just buy a new brass twowire coolant sensor from any auto store stocking it. The way to avoid the flooding is simply let the engine cool off a few hours, remove the reservoir cap and replace it (losing any radiator pressure), then remove the old coolant sensor with the new one nearby for immediate replacement.

23/10/2017· A coolant temperature sensor (CTS) (also known as an ECT sensor or ECTS (engine coolant temperature sensor) is used to measure the temperature of the coolant/antifreeze mix in the cooling system, giving an indication of how much heat the engine is giving off. The sensor works with the vehicle’s ECU, continually monitoring the coolant ...

+

14/1/2011· These engines have an electrically controlled thermostat, meaning opening and closing of the thermostat can be controlled by engine computer which is fed data by coolant temperature sensor. Not certain whether on these engines this same sensor feeds the temperature gauge dashboard display, but it''s been known for cars to have separate, 2nd sensors for this only.

In this article, I''ll go over the steps involved with replacing the oil pressure sensor and the coolant temperature sensor on a MINI R56 with a turbocharged N14 engine. Other engines are similar, as the sensors are in the same location. On other engines, remove the intake ducting blocking access to the sensors to replace them.
