This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0546 refers to the condition of the EGT (exhaust gas temperature) sensor located in the "up" pipe forward of the catalytic converter. Its sole purpose in life is to protect the converter from damage due to excessive heat. Code P0545 is a similar code which states that the circuit shows "low" voltage.

14/3/2015· Went to the VW dealer to check the fault code. Apparently, the first exhaust temperature sensor is out of range, and this is what triggers the check engine signal. Their diagnostic: 1st sensor 150C (approx 300 F), the other three exhaust sensors in the low 200F range the temperature difference is what triggers the CEL.
31/10/2020· The Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (EGTS) is located in front of the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and/or in front of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (EGTS) detects exhaust gas temperature and converts it into a voltage and feeds back to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with the voltage signal in order to …
